THAT HOLY NIGHT ALBUM - AMY GUSTAFSON

Christmas is not, of course, an exact celebration. We all know that JESUS was not necessarily born on December 25; we recognize that the date was chosen merely as a time which we'd set aside to remember what happened that one night, whenever it was.

And so let us do just that! Let us use this time to indeed remember the glorious reality, the amazing truth, that one night was set apart from all the rest, when GOD, who is magnigicently beyond all bounds of time and space, chose that one night to work inside their bounds, and brought an answer to a people long in anticipation of one. That holy night in a stable in Bethlehem, He said at last, "Here is your salvation! Here is the One that you have been waiting for." At the time, few even noticed that anything had occured that night.

But for 2000-some years, because of that one night, for those who did understand, the world has never been the same.

This is a collection of songs largely influenced by the teachings of Rev. Jim Lincoln and Dr. John Piper, and from the experience of leading worship at Two Rivers Church. Much like the past two albums, the songs within are stories and hand-holds from the journey of faith, this time with an overall theme of learning to not only live through - that is, survive - the tensions of life, but to live - and I mean LIVE - in them.

John 3:30 - "He must become greater; I must become less."

These words of John the Baptist have long fascinated me. His simple statement is the antithesis of what we're taught in a world that values self-sufficiency and self-promotion, being in first place and being in the spotlight. I wrote the songs on this album over the three years I was working in France, during which John's words took on a lot of flesh as GOD used the challenges of missionary life to teach me the real meanings of dying to self and living for His glory and not my own, turning them from Sunday School concepts to every-single-day choices, and what will be a lifelong adventure of unimaginable wonder. These songs are notes taken thus far along the journey to becoming less...
